The special exhibition The Unit of Brazilian Artists` Works happens in context of the 2023 Jingdezhen International Ceramic Fair as a preview of the exhibition Ceramic in Brazil – from Ancestral to Contemporary curated by Tereza de Arruda and conceived for The Journey of Ceramics – 2° Jingdezhen International Ceramic Art Biennial representing Brazil as the guest of honor.
Ceramics have a strong presence in the Brazilian universe in the trivial, utilitarian, decorative, religious, and artistic contexts. Since ancient times, up to the present day, there are records of the use of ceramic objects as part of daily life, ceremonies and ornamentation – clay pottery is seen as an extension of the relationship between human beings and nature. On the surface, a profusion of paintings, textures and reliefs evoke the various symbols of Brazilian culture. The Afro, indigenous and European influence are always present completed by contemporary elements and influences all belonging to the cultural and historical universe of Brazilian cosmology.
The Brazil Ceramic Art Exhibition conceived for the Jingdezhen International Ceramic Art Biennale 2023 presents different groups of works from indigenous provenience, popular culture from different artisans and contemporary artists, who use ceramics and earth as the basis of their works. The exhibition presents a diverse overview of the legacy of ceramics in Brazilian culture.
A exposição especial A Unidade das Obras de Artistas Brasileiros acontece no contexto da Feira Internacional de Cerâmica de Jingdezhen 2023 como uma prévia da exposição Cerâmica no Brasil – do Ancestral ao Contemporâneo com curadoria de Tereza de Arruda e concebida para The Journey of Ceramics – 2° Jingdezhen International Ceramic Art Biennial representando o Brasil como convidado de honra.
A cerâmica tem forte presença no universo brasileiro nos contextos trivial, utilitário, decorativo, religioso e artístico. Desde a antiguidade até os dias atuais, há registros do uso de objetos cerâmicos como parte do cotidiano, das cerimônias e da ornamentação. Na superfície, uma profusão de pinturas, texturas e relevos evocam os diversos símbolos da cultura brasileira. A influência afro, indígena e europeia está presente, acompanhada por elementos contemporâneos pertencentes ao universo cultural e histórico da cosmologia brasileira.
Esta exposição concebida para a Bienal Internacional de Arte Cerâmica de Jingdezhen conta com diferentes grupos de obras de proveniência indígena, cultura popular de diferentes artesões e artistas contemporâneos, que utilizam a cerâmica e a terra como base de suas obras. O conjunto é um panorama diversificado do legado da cerâmica na cultura brasileira.
