Internationale Bekanntheit erlangte die gebürtige Brasilianerin Luzia Simons mit prachtvollen Blumenarrangements aus der Serie Stockage. Die Ausstellung im Mönchehaus Museum zeigt zahlreiche weitere Aspekte ihres umfangreichen Œuvres aus den letzten 30 Jahren. Erstmalig sind neue Arbeiten zu sehen, die während eines Residenzprogramms 2024 am Instituto Bardi in São Paulo entstanden sind. Im tropischen Garten des Wohnhauses »Casa de Vidro« von Lina Bo Bardi hat sich die Künstlerin intensiv mit dem kulturellen Erbe der Ikone der brasilianischen Architektur auseinandergesetzt.
En Passant liegt das Konzept des Gartens als kulturellem und poetischen Erinnerungsraum zugrunde. In Zeichnungen, Fotoarbeiten, Installationen und Videos untersucht Simons die fragile Beziehung zwischen Mensch und Natur sowie die historischen und migratorischen Narrative von Pflanzen.
Luzia Simons – En Passant
Brazilian-born Luzia Simons gained international renown with her magnificent flower arrangements from the Stockage series. The exhibition at the Mönchehaus Museum shows numerous other aspects of her extensive oeuvre from the last 30 years. For the first time, new works created during a residency program at the Instituto Bardi in São Paulo in 2024 are on display. In the tropical garden of Lina Bo Bardi’s “Casa de Vidro” residence, the artist intensively explored the cultural heritage of this icon of Brazilian architecture.
En Passant is based on the concept of the garden as a cultural and poetic space of memory. In drawings, photographic works, installations, and videos, Simons examines the fragile relationship between humans and nature as well as the historical and migratory narratives of plants.
